Go Cougars!!

I have to admit...Adam and I are so excited for Friday evenings to roll around...of course excited, I guess the word I am looking for is nervous, you know that warm fuzzy, excitment feeling you get? That's it. Cy has had 2 awesome games so far, and a few write ups in the paper.

Conner quarterback Cy Smith knows why people think this will be a down year for Conner. When a team loses 22 seniors from a season ago, it's tough to imagine replacing all of that production for someone outside the program. Even Smith will admit it's a process to replace that many key components from a season ago.

"We've got a lot of roles to fill," the senior-to-be said. "We're just taking it a day at a time and we've really got to be humble with it."

In reality Conner's chances to succeed this year might be more of an unknown than anything. Again, when there are 22 seniors playing no one gets to see what kind of talent is in the younger grades. Even for a leader on this year's team like Smith, he's really getting his first chance at varsity football.

"It's a big time for us to step up," Smith said. "A lot of people are looking around saying what's Conner going to be like this year and we just have to surprise a lot of people. "

It's probably fitting that the biggest shoes to fill are the ones that Smith is currently trying to slide his feet into. Former quarterback Nick West, who is now a preferred walk-on with Cincinnati, was a dynamic play-maker for the last two seasons under center for the Cougars. West accounted for 42 touchdowns a season ago (20 rushing and 22 passing) and also racked up over 3,600 all-purpose yards. Smith knows that to get the offense back to where it was, everyone will have to be on the same page.

"We stay after practice everyday for a good 20-30 minutes just to go over the routine plays and stuff we need to get down," Smith said. "It's really played a big factor in how we've done in 7-on-7."

Cy, you're such a stud! I hope the season keeps going so well for you. I think I remember hearing that I could listen to your games on the internet... is that true? if so, where do I go?
